KUALA LUMPUR, 3 July 2016: The upcoming Aildilfitri enables Muslims the opportunity to gain profits for the festive season especially for vendors along the streets of Masjid Jamek.

Majority of the vendors can been seen selling Raya-related products such as traditional clothes, foods and cookies throughout the Ramadan month. Some of the vendors are even changing the product of their previous business to suit the festive celebrations. These types of businesses prove to be lucrative when they claim to earn up to RM 10,000 per day.

Owner of Ain Cookies, Nur Ain Batrisya, 35, who originally sold fruits, said she was able to make an income of around RM7, 000 to RM10, 000 per day when she changed her business strategy to sell cookies at the start of Ramadan month.

"Before Ramadan, I sold fruits but I gained revenues of around RM 1,000 to RM 2,000 a day. Since I changed my product to cookies, due to the high demands from customers, I am so happy that the revenue increased greatly,” she said.

Ain’s husband, Malik Omar, who is also Ain’s business partner, mentioned that he was fortunate to get cheap supplies from suppliers in Kedah and Kelantan who specialized on Raya cookies on a smaller scale.

“We had invested a capital of RM 70,000 to stock up on cookies of thirty varieties, including Pineapple Tart, London Almond and Suji,” Malik said.

This is a good investment because according to Hashim Hussein, another fellow vendor remarked that people these days prefer to buy rather than make their own cookies.

Ain is selling her cookies from a minimum price of RM15 to RM20 depending on the type of cookies. The husband and wife expect their revenue to increase in the upcoming days leading to the end of Ramadan because of the school holidays.
