KUALA LUMPUR, 4 July 2016: About 500,000 people have so far, attended the BookFest Malaysia 2016 which is currently held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The nine-day day fair which began on 2 July appears to have gained a lot of support from Malaysians.
“Since the BookFest started, the response has been overwhelming. I’m happy that fellow Malaysians are interested with our BookFest,” said Henry Lim, Popular admission supervisor.
Although the high number of visitors is due to the current school holiday season in conjunction of the Aidilfitri celebrations, this also reflects the presence of reading culture among Malaysians.
For teacher Rahimah Rahim, 45, the book fair is important because not only it fosters a healthy reading habit among the people but also build the maturity of an individual through knowledge.
“Ever since I heard about the event, I was excitedly waiting for it. Luckily the event is held during the school holidays because I can bring my children along with me,” she said.
This sentiment is shared with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM) student, Luqman Abdullah, 21, who views reading almost as an obsession. Travelled all the way from Batu Pahat, Johor, he visited the BookFest to purchase his favorite books at the exposition.
“I brought my siblings along because they enjoy reading books, same as me. We already bought so many books,” he said. He also mentioned his anticipation for next year’s BookFest.
